My stepmother Elizabeth, gave me a photo album belonging to my father Reg Marks,. It showed him with fellow musicians in Margate in 1937. 

I was about to show at the Pie Factory. This serendipity was an accidental nudge in becoming more aware of empty space and its role in story telling

My mother Bina  had given me the small Japanese figures Reg had  carried home after the war.  I have a memory of them, the vibrancy of their colours, their hair lush. 

I collaborated with Shelley Beach Ganderton to recreate that memory in material and place it emerging over the two dimensional photos. 

Also we began the first tentative making of the Burma Railway.
